Frankfurt, 14 July 2005 – Process costs will be sustainably lowered with greater potential savings on material costs through the application of electronic buying systems in purchasing. Increased integration of e-sourcing solutions in materials management systems is therefore leading to further improvements and developing new potential savings.
Siemens Power Generation (PG) is therefore extending the application of e-sourcing solutions from the electronic buying platform “Siemens Buyside Marketplace click2procure” this year. These sourcing solutions are based on the Enterprise Sourcing Cockpit Portum AG (Frankfurt) and have already been incorporated into the Siemens Buyside Marketplace as effective tools for some time.
The first step included the integration of the electronic bidding service eRfX (electronic Request for Information, Proposal and Quotation) into the SAP module MM (Material Management) of “Power Generation” materials management systems.
This integration enables material master and proposal data to be exported from SAP systems to the online proposal of “Siemens Buyside Marketplace click2procure”. After participating suppliers have been assigned, the proposal on the Portum platform is published, technical and commercial clarification dealt with and analysis of incoming offers carried out. In phase 2, offers are then imported into the SAP system, following selection. The linking of the two systems (SAP and Portum) means an enormous reduction in process times due to the elimination of redundant manual processes, with Siemens Power Generation set to handle over 2,000 proposals via the Portum tool during the business year 2004/ 2005.
Dieter Zink, E-Procurement Manager at Siemens PG, expects major additional benefits from online proposals: “We are significantly increasing our use of e-sourcing solutions through the integration of the Portum platform into our SAP systems. The quality of proposals is increasing, processing time is being reduced, and the entire process is being further optimised through inter-divisional cooperation on the platform”.
“Other clients of Portum AG will benefit from this kind of integration” said Robin Titus, Director of Product Management, “after all, the Enterprise Sourcing Cockpit can be now integrated into SAP systems with minimal time and effort“.
